Hannover, April 10, 2014 – Former Commonwealth of Independence States (CIS states) – Uzbekistan and Sverdlovsk – showed strong interest in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) pavilion at the Hannover Messe. Senior delegations from these regions to the pavilion will help to deepen the bilateral economic relations between the UAE, bringing closer cooperation between themselves with the Emirates.

On Thursday, 10 April, senior representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan met with business leaders and government representatives from the United Arab Emirates. The Uzbek Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Durbek Amanov, spoke with Dr. Adeeb Alafifi, Director Foreign Trade and Export Support from the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development – who lead the UAE“s participation at the Messe – to discuss increasing mutual investments in both countries.

Ambassador Amanov commented that automobile production and tourism in particular presented good chances for cooperation, looking to expand its presence in the Middle East through Abu Dhabi. Dr. Alafifi expressed that both countries have excellent business opportunities to increase bilateral trade further. The Republic of Uzbekistan, rich in mineral resources such as gold, copper, uranium, silver, lead, zinc and rare minerals, is the third largest cotton exporter and fifth largest uranium producer in the world. Dr. Alafif and Dr. Amanov noted that there are further opportunities in these areas for more intensive cooperation also.

The delegation from the Russian region of Sverdlovsk, led by Vice Governor Alexey Orlov, also discussed areas for mutual collaboration. Sverdlovsk, which has its administrative center in Yekaterinburg, has a population of more than four million people and is a district which holds the largest population in the Asian part of Russia. The region is rich in mineral resources such as gold and platinum, and its most important economic activities are mining, engineering and metal processing.
