Salamander employs approximately 450 staff at the Türkheim plant. Salamander has invested some two million euros in the construction of eight new silos – with the aim of ensuring the further development of the site, extending its raw material and ready mix storage capacity, and boosting productivity. Building work began in March 2011. The silos – each 25 metres tall – were completed last week on a site measuring 220 m2. The construction of the new silo facility is of particular importance to Salamander – not only does it represent an increase in business activity at the plant, but also another milestone in the consistent growth strategy and targeted development of the entire SIP Group.
„Each of the new silos has a capacity of 300 cubic metres and can accommodate approximately 180 tonnes of raw material. This means we have effectively doubled storage capacity at the plant and improved process safety – by considerably increasing our stock-to-sales ratio in raw materials and ready mixes,“ explains Manfred Knoll, Salamander“s director of industrial engineering.
For Götz Schmiedeknecht, managing director at Salamander, the company“s consistent strategic approach in the recent years is already bearing fruit: „Our range of products and services, tailored to the needs of our processors, not to mention our supply, production and distribution models are all paying off. By expanding the plant, Salamander has created additional capacity – thus enabling the company to react appropriately to the increasing demand of our national and international customers and to field a more flexible supply of raw materials.“
